New Zealand and Brazil business ties
Brazil is New Zealand’s third-largest partner in Latin America, with almost $274 million of two-way goods trade in 2018. We share a positive relationship with significant untapped potential for further partnerships.
On top of commercial links based around investment, licensing of technologies, and services trade, New Zealand companies are currently looking more and more towards Brazil to offer new solutions. Areas of opportunity include food processing, defence and security, retail, construction, logistics, mining and energy, aviation, health and pharma.
There is also major potential in agribusiness – with both Brazil and New Zealand being significant producers and exporters of primary products, and with New Zealand technologies offering advantages in productivity and profitability for Brazilian producers.
New Zealand has a long-standing dialogue with the Mercosur trade bloc, and both countries are members of the Cairns Group which promises liberalisation in global agricultural trade.
